About

Dr Kate Gazzard brings together a unique combination of physiotherapy and sports medicine skills along with a genuine passion for helping patients overcome their injuries to perform at their best, whether it be as a weekend warrior, top end age-grouper or professional athlete. Kate is both a medicine doctor and physiotherapist with 20 years of sports medicine experience.

Since 1997, she has worked at all levels of rugby from school and club to Super Rugby and International 7’s. She has previously been the Team Doctor for the Brumbies Super Rugby Team, The Western Force and the Australian Women's 7’s.

Along with Rugby coverage Kate worked at the Sydney Olympics in 2000 looking after athletes from all around the world staying in Athletes Village. Kate has provided medical coverage to many sports events including Cycling, Fun Runs, Triathlon, She has also covered a ski season at a Sports Medicine Clinic in Whistler, Canada and has spent a season at a rescue post in Nepal.

She is currently the Australian Medical Delegate for the International Triathlon Union (ITU) World Cup Triathlon in Australia and is the Medical Adviser for the Triathlon Australia Technical and Operational Risk Committee.

A passion for endurance sports medicine

Kate also has a passion for endurance sports medicine. Over the last few years she has worked with many triathletes, ultra runners and surf lifesaving athletes to overcome training and traumatic injuries and return to their best.  She takes time to create rehabilitation programs specific to the sporting and ‘life’ needs of every individual. Kate has also been the race doctor for many large fun runs and triathlon events

Experienced expedition doctor

Kate is a qualified instructor in Advanced Wilderness Life Support for the Wilderness Medical Society and has completed a Diploma in Mountain Medicine with the US Army. She has climbed three of the seven summits (and counting) and has worked at a high altitude emergency rescue post in Nepal and at the base camp of Aconcagua in Argentina (with a successful summit).Kate has also been the expedition doctor for many adventure groups including several tours with wounded Australian soldiers trekking The Kokoda Track in PNG. She was also the doctor for Australian businessman John Singleton and his group including rugby league legend Tommy Raudonikis, Melbourne Cup-winning jockey Larry Olsen and entrepeneur Jack Singleton, mounting a successful summit of Mount Kinabalu and the crossing of the Sandakan Death March in Malaysia.

An accomplished athlete

A keen sportswoman and adventurer herself, Kate represented Australia in the World Championship Ironman Triathlon in Kona, Hawaii in 2015.  She won the Perth Marathon in 2004 and has competed and stood on the podium in many international marathons, Ironman triathlons and adventure races.

Living and loving on the Sunshine Coast

She is happily married to her best buddy, Tim and together with their dog, Boots, they love traveling the globe, running, skiing, hiking, sailing, camping and making the most of every day in their glorious hometown on the Sunshine Coast.
